Background
The purpose of this Wiki is to communicate about the activities of the Information and Technology Services department at UNC Charlotte. The use of a Wiki allows for a public representation of information in a quick and easily accessible manner. Our success as a service organization depends to a great extent on how well we communicate. This wiki is a part of a broader communication effort.
IT Pandemic Planning
ITS is actively planning for supporting the critical activities of the campus during an outbreak of the H1N1 flu this fall. We have advice for faculty on our Center for Teaching and Learning web page. We are also experimenting with an IT services reporting function.

Areas of Focus
The following represent major areas of concentration for ITS.
- Financial Model. What is the proper funding method for ITS that insures that we can keep our critical infrastructure operating effectively. Part of this includes looking at whether or not ITS should be a Special Service Facility (recharge unit).
- Customer Service. What are the hallmarks of good customer service? What does Accountability mean in the context of IT? Who do we serve and how do we serve them?
- Reliability. Making sure that all of the services that ITS provides operate as expected and without interruption.
- Administrative Systems. How to get the most out of Banner and the other systems that comprise the portfolio of software tools available to faculty, staff and students.
We've completed our Draft Statement of Values for the department. This is an internally focused document that will serve as a description of the attitudes, behaviors and beliefs that we hold as a department. I started it as a future-state brainstorming exercise at our June, 2008 staff retreat. Its now been through one review by our entire staff and a second review by the senior leadership team. It was reviewed and finalized in 2009
ITS Organization
The ITS department accomplished a reorganization in August, 2009. The organization consists of six major groups.
